Thanks Noobz Team and everyone else behind the projects ![]() |
Great job guys! Thanks for yet another awesome release!
this is the greatest development in the psp hackers industry. i cant begin to tell you how much this has checkmated $ony,. lets hope they will never be able to stop this with future firmware updates. cheers
Ziped memmory stick pro duo unbricker for people with bricked psp. Would that not be a good idea? If someone has already made a memmory card with all the pandoras files for unbricking. Then why not just make a zip file that can be dumped to a memmory stick, wich can be used by any psp owner that has no way of making the files themselves ie already bricked or just wanting to downgrade. This way all you would need is the pandoras unbricker battery to unbrick with. Can someone try this please. It would be very cool if that would work. Everyone would just need the unbrick battery and they could download the zip and just use a memmory card reader to transfer files from the zip to memmory card. Everyone else with a CF or 1.5 psp could then just use the pandora battery software to make a battery and have no need for the rest of the tutorial. Just a thought!
Amazing :] Keep it up noobz
was wondering a GUI will be realeased or somethin for people with windows vista and can't do the DOS parts?? but thanks for this HUGE accomplitment.. this wil surely be marked in the history books..
Congratulations on creating the amazing application, this is probably the biggest ever break through known to hit the PSP scene to date, as much as I don't have my PSP anymore I understand the significance of this and urge you all to keep doing what your doing. You are all amazing at what you do, and I only wish that you could get alot more in return rather than the s**t that alot of people in the scene give you. Thank You Mentality
OMG!!! u guys r truly the best this has to be the best invention when it comes to psp nice work guys!
Hooly cow that is awesome! woot first comment haha |
You guys have taken all the fear out of the PSP homebrew community, and put smiles on so many faces I'll make my donation to your cause just as soon as I get payed next week, sorry I bought BioShock right before I came home to find this nugget of oh so much joy and now after bills I'm kinda spent. Thank you Respect (and lots of it too) |
It's funny how the day I fully bricked my PSP for the first time is the day this was released. ![]() |
wow i wanted to put this here seeing that this is were it all started ok im having a problem with the mem card install im on my last step and i keep geetin a can't ope msipl.bin what does this mean
I will test it
Best release so far
Thank you Team Noobz and C D!!!! Congrants on your achievement!!! You have always been way too generous for the community, but that's just good! Way to go! Now just buying a spare battery and a 128MB mem stick so I can fix my PSP whenever I have to!
Getting the following error when trying to use msinst.exe or mspformat: http://img168.imageshack.us/img168/8440/whatgc9.jpg Help?
wow, just wow. You must have worked hard on this! Great Success! You must get sum kind of good felling when u release sumthing like this and it is all over on the net. Keep it up! ![]()
Thanks so much everyone involved. Shame about the leak. I hope you find the culprit. It may be just too late for sony to do anything for the first PSP slim release though. Thanks again and good luck with future releases.
Nice job Guys(And Girls)
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE 1. Using the USB connection, connect the PSP with the memory card inserted. 2. Format the memory stick. You can use either Windows Explorer to format the disk, or use the PSP "Format Memory Stick" option 3. Extract the contents of the pandora.zip file to c:\pandora 4. Open a DOS prompt (Start -> Run -> CMD -> ) 5. type c: type cd c:\pandora\mspformat 6. type mspformat (in my case W) ???mspformat W??? You should see a prompt like this: >>> C:psppandoramspformat>mspformat.exe W >>> You are about to format the drive W. >>> All data will be lost. Do you want to continue? [Y] Type "Y". >>> Y and you should see >>> Drive succesfully formatted, and partition moved. 7. Stop the USB connection, and unplug the memory stick (you can leave the cable connected). Seriously REMOVE THE STICK FROM THE PSP 8. Plug the memory stick back in and reconnect to Windows 9. Manually make the directory on the memory stick for PSP\GAME and PSP\GAME150 (GAME150 for custom firmwares like OE) 10. Copy the two directories for each application into either the GAME or GAME150 directory (for me it was GAME150) 11. Download the official 1.50 FW update from http://www.psp-hacks.com/download.php?id=4 12. Extract the update and store it on the root of the MS, named UPDATE.PBP 13. Stop the USB connection and go to the application "Pandora???s Battery Firm. Installer" - this only takes a few moments. 14. ONCE COMPLETED DO NOT SKIP THIS STEP - REMOVE THE MS FROM THE PSP AND POWER THE UNIT DOWN RE-INSERT THE MS AND POWER THE SYSTEM BACK ON 15. Once completed, start the USB connection to the Windows PC. 16. Copy the file msipl.bin from the MS to c:\pandora\msinst 17. from a DOS prompt (referenced above) do the following 18. type cd c:\pandora\msinst 19. type ???msinst W msipl.bin You should see a prompt like this. I guarantee that your stuff will be slightly different; it depends on how your computer is set up, what sort of memory stick you have, and so on. As long as you get the "Are You Sure? [Y]" prompt, you know that the msipl.bin file is OK. >>> C:psppandoramsinst>msinst W msipl.bin >>> PSP MS IPL Installer >>> Load IPL code msipl.bin >>> 241664 bytes(59 block) readed >>> >>> Target DRIVE is 7 >>> Check partation Sector >>> boot status 0x80 >>> start head 0x05 >>> start sec/cyl 0x0004 >>> partation type 0x06 >>> last head 0x0F >>> last sec/cyl 0xB7E0 >>> abs sector 0x00000810 >>> ttl sector 0x000767F0 >>> signature 0xAA55 >>> Check BPB Sector >>> signature AA55 >>> Check free reserved sector:OK >>> Write ABS Sector 0x10 to 0x1E7 >>> Are You Sure ?[Y] Type "Y". >>> Y and you should see >>> Write MS BOOT CODE 21. Now, browse over to the MS under games, and run the application "Pandora's Battery Creator" I recommend backing up the eeprom of the battery just in case (it???s 1K , you???ve got plenty of space). The steps should be pretty obvious at this point, if you decide to backup the eeprom, you'll have to re-enter the battery program to update the battery firmware. 22. ONCE COMPLETED DO NOT SKIP THIS STEP - REMOVE THE MS FROM THE PSP AND POWER THE UNIT DOWN RE-INSERT THE MS AND ALSO REMOVE AND RE-INSERT THE (NOW MODDED) BATTERY. POWER THE SYSTEM BACK ON 23. 24. Congratulation, you are now in posession of a "Magic Memory Stick" 25. and a "JigKick Battery". You're all set! To unbrick a bricked PSP (this part's a lot easier, I promise): 1. With a working PSP or memory stick reader, copy the firmware 1.50 update file into the root of the "magic" memory stick, namd UPDATE.PBP, just like in step 15 above. 2. Insert the "magic" memory stick. 3. Insert the unbricker battery. Your wifi, memory stick, and power lights should all turn on temporarily, and a menu should appear. 4. Press X. After it checks the update file, you should get another menu. 5. Press X to write Firmware 1.50 onto the PSP. Much credit goes to "Freeplay" and "HarryK" for there guides witch iput togther to make this more in-depth
nice finaly a unbricker for psp i have downgrade 20 time
does this work if you want to downgrade your psp as well. and if so can it be used to downgrade 3.51?
Hi, I have a problem with the logical format of the memory stick, when y type Y to confirm that I want to do it, an error messaje appears saying this: Open error (write). I have try this with another computer, but the result is the same, I'm thinking that the problem is in the memory stick. Could you help me please? Thanks
could you tell me what the symbols [ ] mean on the psp so i can return the battery to its normal mode .
Nice!! y'all go'ed and dood it again But one small "?": What does Pandora do to the battery that it can't be used regularly? Keep up the good work- the Prometheus project and the n00bz are the epidamy of the homebrew community. ![]()
You Guys ROCK..... Once again S**Y are going to loose out. Keep up the good work guys. Whats next ? What ever it is, its going to be outstanding.
Thank you for this Programm. ![]() |
does anything happen to the mem stick which is used for the downgrade? hopefully they won't have to be trashed.
Does this need an original Sony battery? Or can it be used with every battery pack. ![]()
hey it saids my Fat 12 isnt supported =S can u guys help??
the psp is programmed in hardware to check the serial no. of the battery as soon as its inserted. If the serial number is 0xFFFFFF then it loads the IPL from the memory stick instead of flash0. Hence a bricked flash0 doesnt matter. This also happens when you put it in sleep mode and back. Which means, suppose you start the psp with the AC adapter, and then insert the pandora battery and memstick, and put it in sleep, and unsleep it, it will load the memstick! So basically if you wanna use a pandora battery normally, you must boot it with only the ac adapter and then insert the battery, then u must never turn it off or sleep it.
or you could convert it back to normal...
I've been waiting 1 year and now finally there is a UNBRICKER THANK U TEAM C D U guys rock but i think it should have benn relised on the 10th September because now Sony will try to make it unbrickeble
How to get the battery back to normal. 1. Remove the unbricker battery. 2. Plug in the AC adapter and boot up the PSP 3. After the PSP is booted up Insert the unbricker battery 4. Run ???Pandora's Battery Creator??? 5. Press both Triggers buttons to instal the backup of the eeprom image (you have made it right?)
This is f***ing amazing! Think how many PSP's lives can be saved! So easy too. Just need to buy a new battery (current one sucks ass anyway) and use old one as the Pandora battery |
First i must said thank u N00BZ team for this develop, and here's my question: if i had a 3.5x official F/W psp, could i use pandora's battery for downgrade it for 1.50? Thanks from brasiliam friends!
I would like to congratulate you guys for such a great success. Awesome work with the new unbricker aka Pandora's Battery! Hey, it works as a downgrader for all PSP too. ![]() |
I forgot to ask this. How can I revert the jigkick battery to a normal one?
Err...doesn't this basically mean I can use my non-brick PSP and downgrade it to 1.5 from any firmware too? If I understood Torch's expalanation correctly, the battery should be restoreable to a normal battery (if there is a way to figure the serialnumber...but shouldn't that stand on the battery anyway?) Would be a really great way to downgrade without any games...and a new battery is probably easier to buy than lumines nowdays ![]()
Noobz rocks!
does it downgrade any version of psp to v1.5?
Any idea if this will be compatible with the psp slim? I assume it woul, but i just want to check. It would be friggn sweet if it did. Im curious as to how sony will respond to this. Exploits are generally fixed via firmware updates, but something like this seems like it might require something more than that. @ Paul: Yeah, it will downgrade any firmware. Going by what Torch said (great description btw), if the serial of the battery is 0xFFFFFF it doesnt even look at the flash0 on the psp and goes straight to the mem stick, so the battery doesnt know what firmware is in the psp's flash0.
So is the whole serial number thing how sony flashes the psp in the factory or something or does that one just confuse the PSP? How would you convert your battery back?
I'm stuck on passe 13 it give me an error sayin error reading system.dreg then it goes back to xmb.
I Think I love you ![]() |
So is this how Sony flashes them as well? Or, does that serial number just "confuse the PSP"? How would you change your battery back?
i HAD I had, a bricked psp So, once upon a time LOL LOL thks a lot, very very kool |
OOOOOOOOOOOOOO MANNNNNNNNNNN!!!!!!!!!! THIS IS THE GREATEST THING HAPPENED TO PSP'S HISTORY THANK U 2 ALL U GUYs
Hi, I'm working with an old broken PSP with about 3/4th of the screen shattered-- I got into a fight with a guy and he stomped on my backpack--I need to know the initial output of the battery app so I know which option to select.
IF I DON'T KNOW OF ANYONE THAT HAS A PSP THAT I CAN BORROW TO USE THEN HOW DO I GO ABOUT THIS? I'M RUNNING OFFICIAL 3.52 (NOT BRICKED). IS THERE ANY WAY FOR ME TO DOWNGRADE OR AM I JUST SCREWED?
Paul: It reflashes the PSP with whichever firmware you placed on the "Magic Memory Stick". Fanjita, AMAZING release! I highly doubt the Sony reps will find a way to block out the service mode. It just seems impractical. Nonetheless, I just hope people don't use this too much and screw up one time to permanently (like needs replacement of unit) bricks their psps. Though with this service mode now accessible, what other features do they display as part of this mode? Is there any other functionability we may gain access to?
Yeah!!! It downgrades!!!! I even put my battery back to normal. I turned my PSP on ONLY with my charger, THEN I put the battery, then I ran the battery program (the one I used for jigkicking) and picked []...
could i downgrade custom firmware i.e. v3.10oe to v1.5?
Are there any way to do it with one psp which is 3.51?
Amazing work guys!
@Paul - I think it does, but that is only once the battery is made. This will make it a lot easier to downgrade my friends PSPs.
nice Work U guys amazing i upgraded so i just needed a downgrade so badly So thank u very much
Great people with great program. Good on you, mate ! You just save one brick PSP in Australia
/quote "I'm stuck on passe 13 it give me an error sayin error reading system.dreg then it goes back to xmb. " /guote i'm having the same problem . . . ![]()
i like this software it works as a downgrader for all PSP too |
Hey, it works as a downgrader for all PSP too koooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooool
Thank you guys for this marvelous PSP unbricker. I Don't need it but I'm sure there are a lot of people who where in dire need of this. And I'm sure I will need it in the near future (PSP Slim ) Hey guys don't forget to donate they deserve it for their hard work. |
my psp when i try to install the firm for magic stick... it says it cannot be read. please help.. [also how do i mspformat] ?
Fantastic work and definitely one for the books: - 2005-May-05: nem released 'hello world' for FW 1.00 - 2005-Jun-15: PSP-DEV released swaploit for FW 1.50, then KXploit on 2005-Jun-22 [MrSiir, KiLLeR-X,PaWsTick, CybBlade (RIP)] - 2005-Sep-23: toc2rta found a working exploit for FW 2.00, used for a downgrader to 1.50 by MPH on 2005-Sep-27, alternative downloaders released by SonyXTeam (Yoshihiro, Mathieulh, Dark_AleX) - ... whole list of downgraders ... - ... whole list of custom firmwares ... 2007-Aug-22: C&D/Noobz release service mode unbricker tool.
do i must to have 1.50 psp? why? please anyone answer me!!!!!
Anybody found the solution for the "cannot write to System.dreg" problem? Searching Google, there are more than 5 persons encountered this problem but seems no solution. asdf: No, as long as you have 1.5 or OE or M3 firmware. Those are okay, Those are needed to generate the data from the PSP itself. Ask your friend to generate the data for you from their PSP.
How can i restore nand-dump.bin? When i try it i got an error - "File not found" But nand-dump.bin is there. Is it a bug? I used Pandora to backup. Any ideas?
yes to create the special battery and memery stick
can someone translate the donations page into english please? email me -- This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it
noobz: 10 Sony: 0 you've done it again, only this time, you've gone too far , lol, nice, now just about anyone should be able to downgrade or even unbrick, no more need to trash those old psp bricks. I have one little question though, in the readme it states "- The firmware in the Memory Stick is not a full 1.50, but a minimal subset. Therefore, not all applications (such as flashers, or recovery apps) will load." does this mean you can't upgrade to oe firmware or anything like that, like your stuck on 1.50, or could you do somethig like upgrade it to 2.71 and use another downgrader to put the full 1.50 on it? |
great work guys, thank you for making this possible
anyone having problems with the msinst do not put it in the folder it says to do so put the exe and the msipl.bin in the c: directory it should work like that same goes for mspformat.exe
>>>>>>>>>>>ghost sonic after ur done the process u can upgrade to any firmware u want u just need to run the kexploit app first. try searching for that first. after u do that u can upgrade to any FW even Custom FW
OMg!! i got the "cannot write to System.dreg" anyone knows how to fix it? or theres noway to fix?? helps plz!! thx in adv
They need to add something that when you put the battery in you can choose whether you want to go in to service mode or just use it as a normal battery
how do i downgrade a 3.51 or 3.52 using the pandora ?
Thanks a lot C D ! I created the battery and the memstick... but I have no psp to test it (mine works perfectly, I won't try...) I hope you'll keep your paypal account for a long time, you'll probably still receive donations in several years when people brick and magically unbrick Can't wait to try it on a psp slim, though... It might be wise to buy the PSP slim when it is first released, as it probably won't have any protection agains that...
Great accomplishment once again by the team.....More power to you guys! This is the mount everest of all PSP Homebrew community!
i don't know if this will be of any help. . . for those who are getting "error reading system.dreg" message and are on OE/SE/M33 fw, try to downgrade to 1.5 OFW. . .you can use the recovery menu for that. . .then create the pandora's battery using that firmware. it worked for me. . .again, this only works for those who are on OE/SE/M33. i'm very sure that there could another way to solving this without the need to downgrade your existing CFW. . . i salute team C D and all the devs behind it for this very remarkable milestone in psp history. . .guys like you make me love my psp so much! ![]()
can pandora really downgrade 3.52 ofw ? i already tried it but it alway stuck at "Run Pandora Battery Creator" step Can Anybody help me ?

I've been following the scene even before I knew what the term "Homebrew" even meant. I remember back in the day, using the .Tiff Exploit to run homebrew on my old 2.00 PSP. (
how do u turn the pandora battey back to normal, i get it that you have to run the battery creator program again and select 'change to normal' but i cant find i way to execute the eboot when using the pandora battery, (ie get back into the normal psp os) , comment me if ya know what i mean, unless the only way to revert back to normal, is to complete a downgrade and then run the program while the battery is in use under 1.50 cheers
Awesome work, one of the best days of the PSP scene, Thanks to the Team C D ! Zx
yang_shen, u can use pandora's battery to downgrade any version, but u need a psp with 1.50 or m33, wildcard, oe firmware to creat one
congrats C D team and D-A for the great unbricker I've a question, after I downgraded to 1.50 using the pandora's battery, can I install 3.52 M33 ? and if yes, how ? thx |

| ok i only have one mem card and battery. and i have a few questions i NEED answered before i try dis out. | Ummm am i the only one that gets this error... When i'm trying to mspformat in CMD it says "Logical Drive more than physical drive, Too much to handle".... wut does that mean? Ok so i read other forum's and they said to just ignore that and just use windows to quick format, so i did. But umm.. i get to the msinst part and another error pops up saying msipl.bin readed 0x000000 (blah blah blah |
f**king kickstart company passing it off for a few bucks

This is great! Thanks noobz, cause i just recently bought a psp (my first ever) and i wanted to have homebrew, but there wasn''t a downgrader for 3.51. This, truly is an amazing find. But is there anyway to revert the battery and memory stick back? (i guess reformatting the memory stick again would work. but the battery??)
i just read someone had problems trying to upgrade his PSP with sony's official firmware. anyone else having problems after the downgrade?
it keeps saying the data is corrupted... what the heck am I doing wrong? (When I copy the battery and install files i keep getting corrupted data.)
simply genious
Hi, I have a problem with the logically format of the memory stick, when Y type Y to confirm that I want to do it, an error message appears saying this: Open error . i try on the other memory card, it appears to be the same. Could you help me please?
Was stuck on 3.11 firmware now downgraded to 1.50 and 3.52 M334. I want to congratulate team C D and Dark Alex for making one the biggest hacks in the world and to beat SONY who are p**sed at this moment in time. It was great creating a unique custom jigstick and using you're own psp tools ie battery and memroy stick was genuis. Have a nice retirement Team Noobz and Fanjita. Imy
Please, someone make a ready build! I can't make build myself because I don't use Windows!
thanks, my brick psp is unbrick ![]() |
wait how can i downgrade with this? and u mean my battery will be useless?

wow this is sooooooooooooooooooooo cool!!!!! i unbricked my psp and made the battery normal wicked!!
This is certainly gonna Rock Sony's Boat I was just wandering if you could make a Windows executable to make the battery and mem stick, cos, loads of people don't know anybody who has a 1.5 Fimrware PSP. It would be great if it were possible, thanks for this anyway.... |
once I unbricked my psp with this it is now stuck on 1.5 firmware! I cannot update to any of the custom firmwares or even the official sony updates. Same problem every time, firmware update flash runs but psp is bricked when you try and start it up. I have tried many different updates but all the same. Is there a way round this?

I love homebrew havent got a psp at the moment waitin for sept 10th am really glad about this creation i think laws are there to be broken, Sony do the best stuff and gadgets, but like everything their way.so that they can profit but whats the point of not using their stuff to full potential. Personally cant wait to have a psp2000 with snes emulator on it...
The guys did a great job with the Pandora battery. The only thing I'm wondering is how I am going to downgrade my psp 3.51 when I don't have a spare homebrew psp. Any one out there can help?
| to:Lawthugg Help!is there something wrong in what i've done. i'm already in the "System Back On Procedure". You should see a prompt like this. | does these means that you can downgrade the new slim psp and install homebrew programs? |
Try this link.... http://www.psp-hacks.com/forums/about107068.html
would it be possible to make a *.cfg for the battery changer? I think at the moment we all get serial number 123456789 if we change it back to a normal battery... Then Sony has a easy way to ban/not allow upgrades/whatever for all batteries with that serial number...
It does not work every time I put the stuff on it says Game could not be started when i run the msp format thing a black window appears for 1 second on my screen then vanishes is this only hapening to me? Help me please.
UH...I'm having big problems running the formating tool. Ok here what happened. I follow the steps and I go to run the formating tool that I downloaded and I click it and as soon as I click it, the cmd screen disappears. lolol! Now what is happening? What if you dont want to buy a new battery? Theres a way around buying a new battery and using the original. Ok after pandoras batter tells you to insert a normal battery or whatever...just remove the battery pack. Plug in your psp charger..start up the PSP. Run the program that converts the battery into a "Jigick Battery" but this time turn it back into the normal battery. it worked for me i didnt need to go buy a new battery ![]() |
For whos that have this error " cannot write system.dreg " see this page: http://www.psphacking101.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=112868

I see a million questions about needing a 1.5 or custom firmware to make the jig'd battery. YES, think about it you have to run the programs on the psp to make the thing. Can you do that on non custom or 1.5? negative
dark_alex rocks does anyone know where to get the memory stick software only i need it because i bought the datel battery and donated to the team at the same time my email is This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it sorry for buying from datel but i have no access to a hacked psp "yet" lol
I have one question, a friend of mine is going to unbrick my psp, but we are afraid that creating the jigkick battery will brick my friend's psp, does it have risk to brick, creating a pandora battery? Please anwser me ![]() |
jeff6780: You will need a hacked PSP to create the memory stick. If Datel didn't tell you that, then I suggest you get in touch with them and express your dissatisfaction. Iron Sting: There is no risk. HUGE NOOB: Press the screen brightness button. Then upgrade to a custom firmware to fix the screen brightness problem.
I understand that the Pandora's Battery allows you to run 1.5 from mem stick (with limitations). But is it possible to allow it to run other official firmware (encrypted or decrypted) from mem stick? I currently have 3.40 OE-A and would like to have the ability to play games that require firmware like 3.5 without having to install a different CFW such as 3.52-M33.
Hi, I understand you need Memory Stick Pro Duo, and at least 256 MB, but does it have to be Sony, or would a SanDisk do as well? Fantastic work!!!! I'm excited about buying a new battery and memstick to try it out!! (PS: yes, I already have a 1.50 PSP thanks to Lumines...
can u put custom firmware on the psp with the pandora's battery?

Umm I know this might sound noob but can this go to the FW vs 1.0? I always wanted to not kexploit 1/2 my homebrews... Does this work on any region psp? (like jap, eng, ect.)
@Memory Stick Question Yes, you can use sandisk ms. btw. 64MB sandisk ms _PRO_ duo card works great with pandora. @mason3d Yea.
can you send me an image from a memory stick with the firmware installed? (including the msipl.bin installed an decompressed) This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it

Hey i do follow the steps in the guide like removing the stick and disconect usb and such but i still get courupted files right after i have to place installer and battery in the psp/game. I am using 3.40 oem so i dont see why this is happening.
I cant get it to work can someone help me?? please!!!!!!!!
@Nightwarrior: In order to make the Pandora Battery you need a PSP with 1.5 or custom firmware. AFTER you have made the battery, then you can use it to downgrade. @GENE: When you say that you have 3.40 oem, do you mean you have the official 3.40 from Sony? If so, read what I wrote to Nightwarrior.
